JUNIA is a French engineering school born from the merger of three prestigious schools, namely ISA (Higher Institute of Agriculture), ISEN (Higher Institute of Electronics and Digital Technology) and HEI (Higher Studies in Engineering).

This merger has made it possible to combine the expertise and know-how of each of the schools to offer a more comprehensive and multidisciplinary engineering education, focused on ecological, digital and technological transitions. JUNIA students thus benefit from a wide range of specializations ranging from agricultural sciences to digital engineering, renewable energies, smart and resilient cities, and many other fields.

Course details

The MSc Smart and Resilient Cities at Junia in Lille is a unique program that prepares engineers, architects, and urban planners to integrate technological, social, and environmental factors into urban design.

The program focuses on energy usage, efficiency, new technologies, and environmental planning to create resilient and sustainable cities. It offers students the opportunity to work on complex, multidisciplinary projects and to think beyond just the design itself, but also about the world they are designing for.

The MSc Smart and Resilient Cities is entirely in English, making it an ideal choice for international students looking to acquire the skills and competencies needed to succeed in the ever-changing world of urban design.

Creativity and collaboration are your new normal

Today a single discipline cannot meet all the emerging technical, social and economic needs of a city. Therefore, Smart & Resilient Cities require the combination of multiple skills from a variety of stakeholders, who must learn to cooperate and work together. New collaborative and innovative working methods and spaces are employed in order to confront the reality of smart cities.

Test your abilities in context

The program includes completion of a full-time team project and professional internships with a company or laboratory in France or abroad.

Submit real proposals from year one

Studio workshops are proposed on a real site with the associated actors (1 studio/year). The students will propose and design eco-districts and buildings, taking into account environmental issues, integration and context (social, economic, landscape), and architectural quality in a broad sense.

Broaden your view of the world

Students will participate in an intensive international learning trip to discover innovative ecosystems in cities such as Montreal, Barcelona, Nice… From its’ ideal location at the heart of European the Smart & Resilient Cities Program will integrate exploration trips from Lille to other European cities.

Teaching & learning methodologies

Cities are constantly evolving and adapting to new paradigms, including technological, social, and economic changes. The Smart & Resilient Cities program recognizes the need for designers and engineers to integrate these factors when developing urban areas.

This master's degree focuses on integrating energy usage, efficiency, new technologies, and environmental planning into urban design.
